Seen while asleep
I saw this in Tacoma last night while sleeping. It was a dream. In the dream I was a whale, and I was on a beach. I was not unhappy. Then another whale appeared on the beach and talked up the ocean, how we could swim across the planet, open our mouths and drink in dinner. “I don’t know. I have a feeling if I left the beach I couldn’t come back.” The whale agreed that I would not come back to the beach. I thought. “But what would I eat on the beach?” I closed my large eyes and saw whales straining food from the water. I woke up.
Five minutes later, en route to the bathroom, it struck me that I should have entered the ocean without hesitation. A beach is no place for a whale. How could I have thought about remaining on the beach? There’s a lesson here. Maybe a metaphor too. I was choosing not to go where I would thrive for fear of losing the option of coming back to the beach. There’s a lesson here. Maybe a metaphor too.
